What’s up, race fans! I’m Brad Barnett, the 45-year-old pilot of the #9 Super Modified. You’ll usually find me somewhere between the middle of the pack and making sure nobody gets left behind. Somebody’s got to supervise the race from the back, and I take that responsibility seriously. I’ve been racing cars and motorcycles since I was 15, including Pony-class race cars—think Pintos with a competitive attitude. I’ve also served as a crew chief and run chase trucks for the Desert Tough Truck series, so I’m familiar with both breaking things and figuring out how to get them home. When time allows, my wife and I tour the country on my sport-touring motorcycle. She rides on the back, which makes her the navigator, scenic photographer, and the only crew chief who can smack me in the helmet when I’m not listening. Apparently, my idea of relaxing is just sitting on a different engine farther from home. But nothing quite compares to ten laps with a 7,000-rpm mechanical argument between your legs. Lawn mower racing is a different kind of rush, and whether I’m chasing the leaders or just trying to stay on the same lap, I’m having a blast. Come see us at a Southern California track, stop by the pits, and grab a free autograph. It’s worth absolutely nothing, but neither is my advice, and I’ll happily give you both!
